Employees of the National Center for Prevention of Torture visited the defendants in the so-called Kempir-Abad case, who went on a hunger strike, in Bishkek remand center 1. The center’s head Bakyt Rysbekov told 24.kg news agency.

The hunger strike was announced in protest against the transfer of Ilgiz Shamenov, Ravshan Dzheenbekov to other cells, and Atai Beishenbek — to a punishment cell.
The Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created on October 22. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. Mass arrests began on October 23. Authorities placed 27 people in jail on charges of preparing for riots.
On April 12, the court changed the measure of restraint for Klara Sooronkulova, Gulnara Dzhurabaeva, Mambetzhunus Abylov and several other defendants in this criminal case to house arrest.
