31 cases of violations of LGBT rights registered in Kyrgyzstan in 2022

The Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity (ECOM) annually analyzes violations of LGBT rights in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The organization reported.

ECOM registered 31 cases of violations of LGBT rights in Kyrgyzstan in 2022. Most of the victims are people living with HIV. Homosexual men of different ages, who are looking for partners on social media, take the second place among the victims.

The report is based on documented cases of rights violations provided by non-governmental organizations, as well as an analysis of the legal environment in the country.

According to ECOM, in all cases the victims were afraid of the threat of outings or did not trust law enforcement agencies, therefore, they refused to file statements.

Cases of discrimination by medical personnel and employers, as well as " fake dates" are among the most common human rights violations.

ECOM recommends Kyrgyzstan to take decisive steps to eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity works on the rights and health of the LGBT community in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It brings together non-governmental organizations and activists working in this field in 20 states.

May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia. It was on May 17, 1990 that the General Assembly of the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses.
