Parliamentary committee approves amendments to Gulshat Asylbaeva's law

The Committee of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on Transport, Communications, Architecture and Construction considered amendments to the law of ex-deputy Gulshat Asylbayeva «On protection from inaccurate (false) information».

At the end of the discussion, the deputies approved the concept of the bill and proposed to strengthen the responsibility of the media that distribute false materials in the document.

The draft law should also be considered by the Committee on Social Policy.

Seven deputies of Parliament — Zhanar Akaev, Adakhan Madumarov, Elmurza Satybaldiev, Gulya Kozhokulova, Dastan Bekeshev, Seyid Atambaev and Chingiz Aidarbekov — initiate amendments to the Law of ex-deputy Gulshat Asylbaeva «On protection from inaccurate (false) information».

The discriminatory document was adopted by the sixth convocation after a meeting with the president in violation of all procedures of the regulations. Representatives of the media community and experts have repeatedly stated that the law is directed against independent media. The blocking of Azattyk, Respublica websites and the partial blocking of 24.kg news agency are the proof of this.

Sadyr Japarov signed the law «On protection against inaccurate (false) information», initiated by MP Gulshat Asylbaeva, on August 23, 2021.
