Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov commented on Twitter on the initiative of members of Eldik parliamentary group to amend the Constitution for introduction of the death penalty for pedophiles.
According to him, abolition of the death penalty is a fundamental constitutional norm, repeatedly confirmed by a nationwide vote.
«This is not a temporary moratorium, but a conscious choice. The Cabinet of Ministers will actively defend the Constitution from such impulsive initiatives,» the official stressed.
It was reported on Thursday that the Constitutional Court accepted for consideration the proposal of Eldik deputy group on giving an opinion to the draft law on amending the Constitution.
Deputies in the composition of 61 people ask to introduce the death penalty for pedophiles.
But capital punishment is prohibited in Kyrgyzstan by the Basic Law. In order to overcome the ban, it is necessary to make appropriate amendments to the Constitution.
