Secretary General of the Football Union of Kyrgyzstan Nurdin Bukuev commented on the refusal of the Russian team to participate in the championship of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA).
«The absence of the Russian team at the tournament will in no way affect its spectacularity. There are quite strong teams in our Central Asian region: the national team of Iran, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. It is always interesting for us to compete with any opponent,» Sport-Express quoted Nurdin Bukuev as saying.
The head of the Football Union added that the competition would be no less interesting, even if the list of participants was limited to six teams instead of the planned eight teams.
Teams from Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have confirmed their participation in the CAFA Championship.
Teams of Kuwait and Oman received invitations to the championship.
Earlier, the Chinese team refused to participate in the championship, then the Russian team.
