«The decision not to participate in the tournament was made after an internal discussion, including with the coaching staff of the national team. It is due to the timing of the tournament, coinciding with domestic competitions, including the superfinal of the Cup of the Russian Federation,» the Russian Football Union noted.
The first CAFA Championship will be held from June 9 to June 21, 2023. Teams from Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan will participate in it.
At the moment, Russian teams and football clubs are not allowed to participate in tournaments under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA.
