Construction of fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL) within the framework of the Digital CASA-KR project officially started in the republic. The Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The construction of FOCL began in Baitik village, Alamedin district, Chui region. The initiative is being implemented as part of the first component of the World Bank’s Digital CASA — KR project under the Ministry of Digital Development — Expanding the Regional Digital Connectivity Infrastructure. The main results of the component will be a deployed backbone fiber optic network with 30 new backbone nodes. In addition, points of presence will be designed, as well as a distribution network of 212 nodes intended as access to all unconnected communities, two new cross-border connections. Up to 4,000 state institutions will be provided with broadband Internet access.
«The launch of work on the construction of fiber-optic communication lines is an important step towards creating the necessary transport infrastructure for the digital economy. We are confident that thanks to this project our citizens will have access to new technologies, and companies and entrepreneurs will get new opportunities for business development,» the Minister of Digital Development Talantbek Imanov said.
The construction work will be carried out by a consortium of Kyrgyztelecom OJSC and Elcat LLC. They were selected in accordance with the competitive procedures of the World Bank. The leader of the consortium is Kyrgyztelecom OJSC. The Digital CASA — KR project is being implemented by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic with the financial support of the World Bank.
