Kyrgyzstan calls on investors to invest in energy projects

«We urge investors to invest in energy projects in Kyrgyzstan, including within the framework of public-private partnership,» Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev said today at the International Energy Forum of the EAEU member states.

According to him, in the context of the rapid growth in electricity consumption, the power system of Kyrgyzstan faces challenges. It is necessary to take measures to increase generation. In addition, the President of the country, Sadyr Japarov, has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The powerhouse will be renewable energy sources.

«The Cabinet of Ministers is exploring all the possibilities of new generation and highly appreciates the efforts of the private sector in the transition to green generation. As for the development of renewable energy sources, a new law was adopted last year. According to it, a grace period for renewable energy sources projects is set for 15 years. A guarantee is provided for the purchase of generated electricity. The import of equipment for the construction of renewable energy facilities is exempted from value added tax,» Bakyt Torobaev said.

He also noted that a green energy fund has been created as a guarantor between the state and business. The reform of the tariff policy continues. A tariff for the purchase of generated electricity is set at 5 cents per kilowatt for renewable energy sources.

«We have set this tariff in order to make it profitable to launch renewable energy sources. At the same time, it is formed with the expectation of those consumers who today buy electricity at a higher price. We draw up a balance and see how much electricity can be provided by renewable energy sources, the same small hydroelectric power plants and how much is needed by consumers who buy it at a high price,» Bakyt Torobaev concluded.
