U.S. Ambassador meets with Speaker of Parliament of Kyrgyzstan

Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiev received the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kyrgyzstan Lesslie Viguerie. Press service of the Parliament reported.

Participants of the meeting discussed issues of building political and economic relations between the two countries, and exchanged views on the aspects of expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

«I am deeply sure that as an ambassador you will contribute to raising interaction between Kyrgyzstan and America to a new level,» said Nurlanbek Shakiev.

He noted that the Kyrgyz Republic was interested in building constructive relations with the United States, based on mutual trust, and also stressed the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations.

«Development of relations between Jogorku Kenesh and the U.S. Congress, which weakened due to pandemic, is of particular importance. Therefore, as the first step, we would like to create a «group of friends of Kyrgyzstan» under Congress in the framework of work of the commission «Partnership for Democracy». It is also necessary to activate the mutual visits of parliamentary delegations and joint work in this direction,» the Speaker of Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament said.

The issues of expanding trade and economic cooperation were also raised; Speaker believes that the level of cooperation in this area cannot be called satisfactory.

He invited American companies to get acquainted with the investment, export and tourist capabilities of Kyrgyzstan and proposed to extend the validity of visas to America, and simplify the conditions for their obtaining.

Lesslie Viguerie informed that he intended to focus on the development of relations between the two countries, to establish interaction in the economic sphere, in the field of environmental protection and education. In addition, the diplomat added that the directions of the creative, digital and green economy were priority.

Dwelling upon visa issue, he explained that it was recently decided to reduce the period for obtaining a visa from two years to 60 days.
