New electricity tariffs: Energy Ministry presents calculations of increase

The Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan has submitted amendments to the medium-term tariff policy for public discussion. New electricity tariffs are introduced.

The ministry, as the President Sadyr Japarov reported earlier, proposes to set a tariff for household consumers at 1 som per kilowatt-hour of electricity from May 1.

A two-rate tariff will remain in force in the country. But the limit of electricity consumption at 1 som per kilowatt-hour will be increased from 700 to 1,500 kilowatts.

When consuming more than the limit, consumers will have to pay 2.16 soms per kilowatt-hour of electricity. This is the rate that is currently in effect for consumption of more than 700 kilowatts. The Ministry of Energy decided not to change its size. The tariff for low-income families will also remain the same. They will pay 50 tyiyns per kilowatt-hour for electricity consumption up to 1,500 kilowatts. They will have to pay 2.16 soms like all consumers in case of exceeding the limit.

At the same time, it is planned that from 2024 the tariff will be increased annually from June 1 by the inflation rate.
