Electricity tariffs: Energy Ministry announces details of increase

Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Sabyrbek Sultanbekov told why the electricity tariff was decided to be increased to 1 som.

According to him, the increase will be within the inflation limits. The two-year inflation rate is applied to the tariff of 77 tyiyns. Taking it into account, the rate is approximately 97 tyiyns. It is planned to increase the tariff up to this amount.

«Such a tariff will be applied in case of consumption of up to 700 kilowatts. As for consumption of over 700 kilowatts, we made an adjustment to the annual inflation rate, and it is proposed to set it at 2.41 soms. But this is not the final variant. There are proposals to set the tariff of 2.16 soms in case of consumption from 700 to 1,500 kilowatts, and over — 3.4 soms. These options are being discussed,» said Sabyrbek Sultanbekov.

He noted that the tariff of 50 tyiyns per kilowatt-hour of electricity for poor citizens will be preserved. The tariff of 5.04 soms for energy-intensive consumers (gold mining companies, distilleries, foundries, mining industry) will not change either. The Ministry of Energy believes that these rates do not need to be increased, because the economically justified tariff has already been set.

Earlier, the President Sadyr Japarov announced an increase in electricity tariffs in Kyrgyzstan from May 1, 2023.
