Kyrgyzstan to get $9 million from Switzerland to support poor villages

Switzerland allocates over $9 million to support most vulnerable rural communities in climate change and disaster risks resilience. The Embassy of the country in the Kyrgyz Republic reports.

The Ambassador of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic Olivier Bangerter and the Representative and Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Kojiro Nakai signed an agreement for 2023-2027.

It is noted that the Swiss government is allocating the money to increase the resilience of the most vulnerable rural communities to climate change and natural disaster risks.

The funds are transferred to Osh, Batken and Naryn regions, where a total of 250,000 of the most vulnerable households are located. Beneficiaries will be provided with reliable and timely information on the state of infrastructure and disaster preparedness. In addition, poor villagers will be able to insure their livestock.

The implementation of the program is envisaged for the next five years.
