U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov and said he was ready to applaud Tashkent for reaching an agreement on the demarcation of the border with Kyrgyzstan. A transcript of the conversation is available on the website of the Department of State.
Antony Blinken reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Uzbekistan.
«I really want to applaud Uzbekistan for reaching a border demarcation agreement with Kyrgyzstan. I think this sends a powerful signal to many in the region, and beyond, about the importance of possibilities with diplomacy for resolving these issues. And I also appreciate the work that’s being done on reforms, including on religious freedom, on forced labor — and, of course, we have much to discuss, including with regard to Afghanistan,» he said.
In early November 2022, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Vladimir Norov and Jeenbek Kulubaev signed in Bishkek an agreement on separate sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border and an intergovernmental agreement on the joint management of water resources of Andijan (Kempir-Abad) reservoir.
The bills on ratification of the documents were adopted by the Legislative (Lower) Chamber and approved by the Senate of the Uzbek Parliament and the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
The presidents of the two countries have already signed the relevant laws.
