Residents of Chechme village, Kadamdzhai district of Batken region, held a rally and demanded clarification from the authorities on the agreement with Uzbekistan regarding Chechme spring. They posted a video message on social media.
«President Sadyr Japarov says that the issues of borders with Uzbekistan have been 100 percent resolved. If so, how was the issue with Chechme spring resolved? We heard that the area around the spring is being transferred to the Uzbek side. If so, where will the village with population of 1,500 get its water from? People are worried. Come and explain to us how you solved the problem with the spring,» one of the villagers said.
He also asked the authorities to fence off the border area.
«According to all archival documents, Chechme spring belongs to us. Fence it. We no longer believe that border issues have been resolved 100 percent,» the man said.
Local residents asked the head of state, the presidential envoy to the region, the head of the district to pay attention to the problem and give an explanation on the agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
The villagers also appealed to the deputies of the Parliament and urged them not to forget about the interests of the state when resolving border issues.
Earlier, the deputy of the Parliament, Chingiz Aidarbekov, reported that in addition to Kempir-Abad reservoir, three more water sources were included in the agreement with Uzbekistan. He clarified that four water sources in the border zone were included in the agreement on separate sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border: Orto-Tokoi reservoir, Kempir-Abad, Gavasai river and Chechme spring.
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have agreed to jointly use Chechme spring, which is located in Kadamdzhai district near Sokh enclave.
