Assistance to Batken: Switzerland to allocate $450,000 for population of region

The Government of Switzerland intends to allocate $450,000 for Batken region. The Embassy of Switzerland in Kyrgyzstan reports.

The funds will be used to help the affected population.

«The Swiss government allocates $450,000 for the population of Batken region affected by the border conflict. At the expense of these funds, the UN World Food Program will provide assistance to the affected population through cash transfers, providing support in nutrition and ensuring food security,» the diplomatic mission noted.

Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 206 victims, 63 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
