Deputy Tazabek Ikramov spoke in defense of Azattyk radio, bloggers and freedom of speech in general at a meeting of the Parliament on Thursday.
He cited the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of expression and freedom of speech, and stressed that there is a ban on censorship in the country.
«Atai (Beishenbek. — Note of 24.kg news agency), Erlan (Bekchoroev. — Note of 24.kg news agency) expressed their own opinion within the framework of their constitutional rights. It is wrong to place them in a pre-trial detention center for two months, because there is no threat to the authorities from them. Today we see pressure on free media, including Azattyk. Such actions are contrary to the Basic Law. The state should protect freedom of speech, rallies are organized instead, where threats are made,» Tazabek Ikramov said.
Recall, the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy suspended the work of Azattyk radio website for two months.
