Austrians to invest in construction of ski resort in Kyrgyzstan

Construction of ropeways for skiers and vacationers in Oruu-Sai and a sports complex in Tamga has become one of the main issues of economic ties in Bishkek. The Tourism Development Support Fund reported.

The meeting was attended from Kyrgyz side by the Minister of Finance Almaz Baketaev, representatives of the Tourism Development Support Fund in the Kyrgyz Republic, and officials, on the part of Austria — officials, financiers and businessmen. Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Austria Tolendy Makeev also came to support the idea and assist in the construction of new tourist facilities in the Kyrgyz Republic.

«We told the commission about two of our projects. These are Oruu-Sai and Tamga. Since we are cooperating with an Austrian company, it has started to perform tasks at the facility. We reported to the commission on the work done,» said Alexander Valitov, Managing Director of the fund.

He noted that negotiations are currently underway with the Austrian company Doppelmayr, a manufacturer of ropeways. The Kyrgyz side intends to order a gondola-type cable car from this company.

Ultimately, a year-round tourism and skiing cluster will appear in the Oruu-Sai tract. Topographic surveys and geological surveys are currently underway.

«As for Tamga, we are talking only about topographic survey so far, so that we can start working on a working project. In the future, there will be a sports multifunctional complex there,» Alexander Valitov said.

Following the talks, the governments of the two countries signed a protocol on cooperation. This is the eighth such meeting, which determines the format of economic cooperation between the two states.

It is noted that the issue of a guarantee mechanism for investments in the construction of a ski complex is being worked out. According to the agreement, 30 percent will be paid by the Kyrgyz side and 70 percent by the Austrian one under the guarantees of the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.
