A new sanitary landfill will be built in Osh city. Vice Mayor of the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan, Sonunbek Zhunusbaev, reported.
According to him, the special facility will be built next to the existing landfill. The planned building area is 24 hectares.
«It was planned to build a landfill in the suburbs, but a suitable land plot was not found. As a result, it was decided to build next to the existing one. This is an EBRD project, during which a number of complex activities are also planned. Engineering survey is currently underway. However, it is necessary to carry out the reclamation of the existing landfill in accordance with European standards, after which it will be closed,» Sonunbek Zhunusbaev said.
He noted that construction will begin after the preparation of the preliminary design.
In 2012 the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) allocated almost €11 million for the construction of a new landfill, 5 million of them were provided as a loan for 12 years. Tender for the construction of the landfill will be announced only after the approval of the site.
