President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov meets with António Guterres

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov met with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York (USA). Press service of the head of state reported.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres noted that he has an emotional connection with Kyrgyzstan, and he was glad for the arrival of the head of state to participate in the General Debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

He added that the Kyrgyz Republic was one of the first countries he visited in his capacity as UN Secretary-General.

António Guterres emphasized that he supports Sadyr Japarov’s initiatives to protect mountain ecosystems.

Touching upon the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, the Secretary-General expressed his condolences to Sadyr Japarov in connection with human casualties. António Guterres said that he was looking forward to solution of the border issues between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Sadyr Japarov recalled that the partnership of Kyrgyzstan within the UN turned 30 years old in 2022. Over the past period, at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan, the General Assembly adopted a solid block of resolutions on the most pressing issues on the international agenda.

Kyrgyzstan, as a responsible state of the UN, is committed to its international obligations and the charter of the organization.

As Sadyr Japarov noted, unfortunately, the meeting is taking place against the backdrop of unprovoked aggression at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. He reminded that on September 14-16, violating all previously reached agreements, the Tajik side attacked border and civilian facilities along the entire perimeter of the state border.

The head of state stressed that Kyrgyzstan highly appreciates the personal attention of the UN Secretary-General and the support of Kyrgyzstan, expressing sincere gratitude for the assistance to the country.

Sadyr Japarov said that Kyrgyzstan was promoting the idea of ​​declaring 2023-2027 the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions, and put forward a draft resolution of the 77th session of the General Assembly on this. He appealed to multilateral financial institutions to invest in the creation of a mountain countries development fund, pay more attention to the problems of mountain countries and invest more in their solution.

The President of Kyrgyzstan spoke at the General Debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. He expressed the country’s position on the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
