As of 2 p.m. the situation at the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan remains calm with a tendency to stabilization. Press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.
«There are no attempts to escalate the situation on the border line, no shots are fired. The parties follow the agreements on ceasefire and withdrawal of forces, work in this direction continues. The commissions carry out joint activities to de-escalate the situation in the border area and reduce tension between the two states. The head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, continues negotiations with Tajik opponents,» the statement says.
Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 134 victims, 36 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon agreed to ceasefire on September 16. The Tajik side violated the agreements.
