Climbers plan to carry Manas epic and flag of Kyrgyzstan to Himalayan peak

Mountaineers from the Kyrgyz Republic want to carry a three-kilogram book of Manas epic and the flag of Kyrgyzstan onto Manaslu peak (height 8,156 meters) in Nepal. The President of the Federation of Mountaineering and Sport Climbing and a member of the mountaineering team of the Kyrgyz Republic, Eduard Kubatov, told at a press conference at 24.kg news agency.

According to him, there are 14 eight-thousanders in the world, and Manaslu is one of them.

«This is the first expedition to the Himalayas in the history of Kyrgyzstan. The team consists of seven people — these are both professional climbers and amateurs, media personalities and representatives of the business community. They all have experience of climbing peaks above 7,000 meters. The team is headed by Sergei Seliverstov, one of the most outstanding and strong climbers in the country, an international master of sports. There is one woman in the national team — Asel Baibagysheva. She is the first Kyrgyz woman who climbed Lenin Peak twice, climbed Khan Tengri,» he said.

According to Eduard Kubatov, the team will leave for Kathmandu today, and the expedition itself will begin on September 9. It is planned that it will last about 35 days. The project is dedicated to Manas epic and the International Year of Mountains — 2022.

«The epic Manas is a real Kyrgyz code. Identification code of our people, our country. We chose Manaslu for a reason. Its name is translated from Sanskrit as «mountain of spirits», «mountain of a great spirit», next to the peak on the Tibetan plateau is Manas lake, Tenir settlement, Mount Kailash, which is of great value for nomadic civilization, Kyrgyz history. We plan to raise a three-kilogram book of the epic edited by Sayakbai Karalayev to the top. Each member of the expedition will carry the book in turn,» the head of the Federation said.
