Group of climbers goes missing on Pobeda Peak

A group of climbers went missing on Pobeda Peak. Mountain.ru reports.

Connection with them was lost on the night of July 20.

The group included Dmitry and Svetlana Pavlenko and two clients.

«The group had been climbing for six days, perhaps with insufficient acclimatization. They climbed up to 6,100 meters. On the last day they went out late, decided to reach the top. The last time they got in touch was on July 19 at 11 p.m. from a height of 7,400 meters. They reported that they started their descent back along the route. They followed the Abalakov route. Judging by the tracker of one of the participants, Pavlenko’s group managed to descend to the mark of 6,200 meters. They were at this mark for a long time. Perhaps, there was a casualty in the group and they had to stay for a cold night. Then the tracker showed a sharp drop in altitude at once of about a kilometer to 5,170. Apparently, the climbers had fallen off. They were not seen through binoculars. Helicopter overflight yielded nothing. Most likely, the group died,» the statement says.

In 2022, climber Dmitry Pavlenko also went missing on Pobeda, but was found a couple of days later.
