The Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan plans to provide schoolchildren in the regions with travel cards for public transport. The Deputy Head of the ministry, Ulanbek Mambetakunov, told live on the radio.
According to him, it is easier to implement the initiative in villages and small towns.
«We need to calculate how much money it will take. We want to start the project in the regions. Local territorial governments can allocate money from their budget for travel or allocate transport. There are not many children there. It is more difficult to introduce the system in Bishkek,» said Ulanbek Mambetakunov.
The official explained that the most affordable kind of transport is run by private companies in the capital. For this reason, it is difficult to negotiate with them. It is possible to provide schoolchildren with free or concessionary tickets, as the Deputy Minister noted, with the support of donors only.
