President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov met with the head of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Cholpon-Ata city.
Topical issues of the Kyrgyz-Tajik bilateral cooperation, as well as the regional and international agenda were discussed.
An agreement was reached to intensify the activities of the intergovernmental commission for the comprehensive consideration of issues of bilateral cooperation and the intergovernmental commission for the delimitation and demarcation of the state border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The leaders of the countries noted the importance of mutually beneficial use of water resources of transboundary rivers in the border areas and intensification of cooperation in this direction.
The parties decided to resume the work of the interdepartmental Kyrgyz-Tajik working group to consider issues related to the use of water resources.
Touching upon the work of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, the heads of state spoke in favor of continuing the efforts of all founding countries to reform the organizational structure and legal framework of the fund, taking into account the interests of all countries of the region without exception.
Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon stressed the importance of continuing a regular political dialogue in order to strengthen good neighborliness between the two states and peoples, noting the need to resolve issues taking into account the interests of the parties in a peaceful way through political and diplomatic negotiations.
