Due to the detection of loose smut in barley crops, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan will inspect all crops of seeds received from Russia. Deputy Minister Azamat Mukashev told at a press conference in Bishkek.
«We confirm the detection of loose smut in spring barley crops in two rural areas in Manas district of Talas region. These 277 tons of seeds were indeed received from Russia. The supplier is Seeds of Stavropol company. They were used to organize crops in Kyrgyzstan with a total area of 1,300 hectares. After the incident, we instructed our regional divisions to inspect these crops,» the Deputy Minister said.
According to the official, the identified disease will not affect the yield. Farmers are advised to collect the infected heads by hand and burn it at the edge of the field. The following year, the seeds should be treated with pesticides before planting. It is also planned to organize a visit of a representative of the supplier company to Kyrgyzstan to resolve the issue on the spot.
It became known earlier that barley seeds, which were given to farmers in Kyrgyzstan on credit, turned out to be infected.
