Fire exchange on Kyrgyz-Tajik border: Negotiations end

Situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is tense. The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Meeting of border representatives of the Kyrgyz Republic for Batken area and the Republic of Tajikistan for Sughd area ended in Bulak-Bashy.

Each of the parties expressed their claims on the armed incident that had taken place. The Kyrgyz side presented reasonable arguments regarding the instigators of the situation — the Tajik border guards.

Following the meeting, the border representatives of the two republics made the following decisions:

  • Clarify the routes of movement of border patrols in Bulak-Bashy area;
  • Return additional forces and means drawn up to the place of the incident to the points of their permanent deployment;
  • Oblige the heads of Bulak-Bashy (KR) and Kekh (RT) border posts to meet daily and exchange information about the situation;
  • Oblige the parties to bury the trenches dug earlier;
  • Not to create obstacles for agricultural work by citizens whose land plots are located near the border.

Another meeting of the border delegations of the two countries is expected in the near future.

A shot was fired for unknown reasons from Tajikistan today at about 7 a.m. In response, the Kyrgyz side also fired one shot into the air. The shooting ended after negotiations. However, it resumed at 7.50 a.m. According to the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Tajik side resumed shooting at 7.50 a.m., using grenade launchers and mortars. It stopped at 8.10 a.m.
