The Atambayev family made an open appeal to the people of Kyrgyzstan.
Relatives of the former president of the country reported the results of a medical examination, which was nevertheless carried out after long bureaucratic procedures.
«Unfortunately, as expected, almost three years in prison sharply worsened the health of Almazbek Atambayev. Comparative analysis of the data before and after his arrest shows this. If the heart and arteries are clean on CT scans of 2018, computed tomography now revealed coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, and atherosclerosis of the aorta and coronary vessels with stenosis,» Alamazbek Atambayev’s relatives said.
According to them, after March 23, Almazbek Atambayev’s condition deteriorated sharply, back pain grew significantly. The MRT results prove that the staff of the State Penitentiary Service severely injured his spine.
They note that the prisoner is recommended to undergo ultra-high resolution endoscopy and, if necessary, repeated argon-plasma ablation of the esophagus. According to the relatives of the former head of state, both operations cannot be carried out in our country.
The authors of the appeal will strive to ensure that Almazbek Atambayev undergoes the entire course of treatment, all necessary procedures and operations.
«The authorities took away Atambayev’s freedom and health. They made an illegal decision to confiscate and want to take his house away. They fabricate criminal cases, bring ridiculous accusations. The authorities actually tortured the former president, dragged him barefoot into the snow, forced him to sit in a court, despite severe pain in his spine. Until the last moment, they deprived him of the opportunity to even undergo a medical examination. They hoped, apparently, that he would not stand it and break. But they are wrong.
He may die in prison, but the authorities will never be able to bring him to his knees. They can take away his home, but they cannot take away his homeland, the support and sympathy of many thousands of Kyrgyzstanis, which we feel every day,» the appeal says.
Earlier, the son of Almazbek Atambayev, Kadyr, reported that on March 23, officers of the State Penitentiary Service forcibly dragged his father out of the cell by his arms and legs, dragged him in his underwear down the stairs to a snowy ground. He had to stand barefoot in the snow.
On June 9, President Sadyr Japarov said that supporters of the convicted former head of state were making threatening statements.
«I want to respond to those supporters of Almazbek Atambayev, who make threats. I am not a person who is afraid. I had a feeling of fear long time ago,» the media quoted him as saying.
«If I, like Almazbek Atambayev, would steal and become a multibillionaire in two years of my presidency, then they could threaten me,» Sadyr Japarov said.
