Kyrgyzstan has enough sugar - Bakyt Torobaev

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev visited Kaindy-Kant sugar production enterprise in connection with a temporary shortage of sugar and an increase in its price.

According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, due to logistical issues regarding the supply of raw materials to the plant, production was suspended for several days. Deliveries of raw cane sugar to the republic have already begun. The plant has been launched, the enterprise ships sugar in the amount of 550 tons per day to the country’s trade networks.

Earlier, in order to saturate the market with sugar and load the production capacities of domestic factories, the Cabinet of Ministers worked out the issue of allocation of quotas for the supply of duty-free sugar and raw sugar to Kyrgyzstan in the amount of 105,000 tons. The Ministry of Agriculture distributed quotas: 49,000 tons were allocated to domestic sugar factories for the supply of raw sugar. Raw materials are purchased from Brazil at a higher price, which has affected its sale price.

The rest is distributed between the State Material Reserves Fund and private companies. Supply contracts are concluded. Sugar is delivered to the country.

According to Keneshbai Tailakov, Chairman of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service, an agreement was reached between sugar refineries and large retail chains to sell granulated sugar at a preferential retail price of 79 soms/kg with a limit of 1 kilogram per hand per day on one loyalty card, more than a kilogram of sugar will be sold at 85 soms/kg.

Bakyt Torobaev instructed the relevant departments to monitor sugar prices on the trading platforms of the republic, as well as ensure timely supplies of raw materials. In addition, he instructed to consider the issue of temporary restrictions on sugar exports outside the country.
