President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov banned slaughtering of cattle during funerals. The President wrote about it on Facebook.
According to him, he issued a decree according to which all citizens of the country, regardless of whether they have an opportunity or not, are prohibited from slaughtering livestock at funerals.
«As everyone has long known, funerals in our country turn into fests. There are cases when the poor slaughter one cow, and the rich — five heads of cattle. As a result, it is common when poor families, competing with the rich, slaughter their only cow, pay last respects to their loved ones, and have nothing left,» he said.
The President urged the people of Kyrgyzstan to follow the same rules. «Yes, there were opponents of this decree. Some have said: «Why, for example I can’t slaughter a horse when I pay last respects to my father, who lived 90 years?» But I believe that such citizens are in the minority. The minority must obey the majority,» he added.
Sadyr Japarov gave an example from his own experience. He wrote that when his eldest son Dastan died in 2019, relatives from the village called him and asked if three heads of cattle they had prepared would be enough. «I did not allow them to slaughter any of them, saying that even the chicken should not be slaughtered. Although they tried to persuade me with the words «many people will come from afar, will we send them back hungry? There will be rumors.» In response, I said to them: «If they discuss this act, they will talk about me. But I don’t hold a feast, I’m mourning.» As a result, about 10,000 people attended the funeral. No one said a word. On the contrary, the majority approved this,» he said and asked all Kyrgyzstanis to support the decree.
Let’s all follow the same rules without dividing into rich and poor.

Control over the implementation of this decree was entrusted to all local governments and the Cabinet of Ministers. The President demands from local authorities, school directors, district police officers, heads of rural administrations, heads of district institutions, heads of districts and presidential envoys carry out information and explanatory work and take this issue under strict control. «Everyone will be responsible for implementation of this decree,» Sadyr Japarov said.
