Today, at a parliamentary meeting, deputies considered the candidacies of Zamirbek Bazarbekov and Emil Oskonbaev for the positions of the heads of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Chamber.
The deputies endorsed the both candidates. At least 82 deputies voted for Emil Oskonbaev, one voted against. Some 84 deputies voted for Zamirbek Bazarbekov, one voted against.
The head of the Supreme Court Nurgul Bakirova resigned on January 31. On Tuesday, the deputies accepted the resignation of the Chairman of the Constitutional Chamber Karybek Duisheev at the request of the President Sadyr Japarov.
Emil Oskonbaev had already worked in the constitutional body of the country. He was the only one of 11 judges of the Constitutional Chamber, who opposed the changes to the Constitution, which were proposed and seemingly pushed through by the President Almazbek Atambayev.
Zamirbek Bazarbekov previously chaired the Council for the Selection of Judges and was a lawyer of Sadyr Japarov. In December 2020, the president appointed him the head the Department of Judicial Reform and Legality of the Office of the President.
