The head of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan Nurgul Bakirova resigned. The press service of the court said.
According to it, her resignation is related to changes in accordance with the new Constitution.
«The new Constitution cardinally changed the procedure for electing a chairperson of the Supreme Court. If previously the chairperson was elected by the Supreme Court judges for three years, then, under the new Constitution, the chairperson is appointed by the President for a term of five years with the consent of the Parliament, based on the proposal of the Council of Judges,» the Supreme Court explained.
Nurgul Bakirova was appointed the Chairwoman of the Supreme Court in April 2021.
