Civil society concerned about high number of road accidents in Kyrgyzstan

Civil society is concerned about the large number of traffic accidents in Kyrgyzstan, including involving children. The head of the Child’s Rights Defenders League Nazgul Turdubekova told.

According to her, from January to October 2021, 45 citizens died in traffic accidents in Bishkek, including three children, 2,062 people were injured.

«Any blow can be fatal for children in road accidents, some become disabled. It would seem that Safe City project is working, but the policy of its support itself cannot guarantee a safe space for the child. The parent community also condemns lowering of fines for traffic violations,» she said.

It is noted that government agencies have recently stopped inviting the civil sector to discuss programs and strategies to reduce number of traffic accidents in Kyrgyzstan. Activists and experts decided to contact the Cabinet of Ministers to consider this issue.

On November 21, Bishkek will host a march dedicated to the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
