Former president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev must be released from detention center and placed under house arrest. The ex-Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan Azimbek Beknazarov told today at a press conference.
According to him, during a meeting of the head of state Sooronbai Jeenbekov with members of the interim government, he proposed to release Almazbek Atambayev.
The Kyrgyz have never judged their rulers or have taken them into custody. Not a good precedent has occured in our modern history.

«Therefore, I suggested changing the measure of restraint to Almazbek Atambayev to house arrest. After all, he is our former president. Instead of a prison, we can place him under house arrest at his dacha in the territory of Ala-Archa-1 state residence. The territory of the state residence is guarded, and no one can enter it,» said Azimbek Beknazarov.
He admitted that none of the members of the interim government supported him.
Answering the question how the president reacted to the proposal, Azimbek Beknazarov replied that, according to Sooronbai Jeenbekov, he had no intention to detain Atambayev.
«The President noted that the investigating authorities were waiting for him to come for interrogation. Atambayev was also not prevented from traveling to Moscow. «I can’t intervene, let the investigation and the court decide,» Azimbek Beknazarov quoted Sooronbai Jeenbekov as saying.
