Kyrgyzstan to set age limit for school principals

It is proposed to set an age limit for school directors to 65 years. Amendments to the Labor Code were discussed by deputies of the Parliament at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Issues, Science, Education, Culture and Health Care.

«The legislation establishes age limits for civil servants, rectors of universities, deputies. There is no standard for the directors of schools and preschool institutions only,» Deputy Minister of Education Nadira Dzhusupbekova said.

According to her, the age limit will ensure the continuity of personnel, attract young directors to work, and honored managers will be able to pass on their experience and be mentors.

Today, many young talented teachers do not see opportunities for growth and go to another job. They have no motivation.

Deputies asked how the mentoring mechanism would work. Nadira Dzhusupbekova replied that a decision would be made based on the results of a competency test. «If a director passes it successfully, he or she will be recommended as a mentor,» she noted.

Deputies noted that the law should be the same for everyone in order to prevent corruption schemes. «It is necessary to completely eliminate subjective factors and introduce precise evaluation criteria,» said Aida Kasymalieva.
