Parliament deputies propose to raise water tariff

Deputies of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan proposed to increase the tariff for water. Such a proposal was made by the members of the Budget and Finance Committee when considering a loan agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the project Rehabilitation of Water Supply and Sanitation System in Jalal-Abad.

The project was launched in 2011, its first phase was completed. The EBRD is ready to allocate €8 million, half of the sum in the form of a grant. Credit funds will be paid at the expense of the money received from consumers.

The Mayor of Jalal-Abad, Murataly Tagaev, noted that there was a real opportunity to repay the loan in full by increasing the number of consumers. A number of deputies believe that the existing water tariff is low, and in the future it should be increased by 100 percent. Murataly Tagaev agreed with the offer.

In 2014, the water tariff in Jalal-Abad was increased from 6 to 7 soms per cubic meter, for budget- funded organizations — to 12.81 soms, for commercial organizations — up to 18.67 soms.
