President comments on dismissal of criminal case against Moldomusa Kongantiev

The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov instructed the Prosecutor General’s Office to examine the criminal case against the former Interior Minister Moldomusa Kongantiev and give a legal assessment to the investigation’s decision. The president said this at a meeting with residents of Talas region, answering their questions.

The head of state recalled that the Security Council meeting on fighting corruption was held on February 8, 2018. In accordance with the decision of the Security Council, the prosecutor’s offices examined the previously suspended criminal cases on official, economic and corruption crimes.

In the period from 2010 to 2017, at least 3,408 criminal cases — 2,262 suspended and 1,146 dismissed — were examined. The investigation was resumed on 498 suspended and 85 dismissed cases.

«There is also a criminal case against Moldomusa Kongantiev among the mentioned cases, which was initiated in 2010 and suspended on September 28, 2010. On May 29, 2018, the investigation was resumed and the case was transferred to the Main Investigation Department of the State Committee for National Security. On June 18, 2018, the investigation terminated the criminal prosecution of Moldomusa Kongantiev because of the lack of crime in his actions. I instructed the Prosecutor General’s Office to examine the data and give a legal assessment to the investigation’s decision,» Sooronbai Jeenbekov said.

He stressed that more than 500 previously suspended and dismissed criminal cases were being studied at that time.
