Omurbek Tekebayev demands rehearing of his criminal case

Ex-MP Omurbek Tekebayev demands rehearing of the criminal case, within which he was convicted, upon newly discovered evidence. The lawyer of Ata Meken party Taalaigul Toktakunova told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, all the documents have already been collected, they are waiting for an official response from the head of the Department of Presidential Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Turusbek Koenaliev.

«Turusbek Koenaliev must officially confirm that the office number 306 in the building, where the interim government located in 2010, was occupied by the ex-president Almazbek Atambayev. All defense witnesses at the trials, that is, all the former members of the interim government, confirmed this. In their testimonies, Aleksey Modin and Leonid Maevsky pointed to this cabinet. They claimed that they then came to Tekebayev. How could they come to his office, if Atambayev worked there at that time? » asked Taalaigul Toktakunova.

According to her, Turusbek Koenaliev has not yet provided an official response. Earlier, he told the lawyers of the accused that he would never confirm that Atambayev took this office, but now he must confirm.

According to Ata Meken, Omurbek Tekebayev is grateful to Ombudsman Kubat Otorbayev for his appeal to the president of the country with a request to pardon the politician.

Omurbek Tekebayev does not intend to write any petition for pardon.

The ex-head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Duishenkul Chotonov, convicted within the same criminal case, will not also appeal to Sooronbai Jeenbekov with a request for pardon.

The leader of Ata Meken party, Omurbek Tekebayev, and Duishenkul Chotonov, were sentenced to eight years in prison on August 16, 2017. They were found guilty under the article «Corruption» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
