Over 10 new housing districts in Bishkek to be supplied with gas in 2018

More than ten new housing districts in Bishkek are planned to be supplied with gas in 2018. Vice Mayor of the city Bakyt Dyushembiyev reported this today at a meeting of SDPK parliamentary faction.

The environmental safety issue is discussed at the meeting. Deputy Dastan Bekeshev noted that in the winter a lot of coal was burnt in the city and asked about measures to reduce the volumes of burnt fuel.

The deputy also recalled the budgetary funds, allocated annually for the distribution of free coal to low-income Bishkek residents. «Can we give this money to them for gas or electricity?» Dastan Bekeshev asked.

«Basically, the coal is burnt in new housing districts. We are working on gas supply together with Gazprom. This year, more than ten new housing districts are planned to be supplied with gas, then the consumption of coal will decrease drastically,» the vice mayor answered.

Previously, Dastan Bekeshev stated that the distribution of free coal to the poor is an anti-ecological measure.

In November 2017, deputies of the Bishkek City Council adopted amendments to the resolution On Social Support for the Low-income Population. According to them, starting from the heating season 2018-1919, free solid fuel for the poor will be replaced by monetary compensation.
