There are only 10 archaeologists-specialists in Kyrgyzstan. Representatives of the National Academy of Sciences stated at the parliamentary hearings on the preservation of museums and the museum fund.
According to experts, students of the historical faculty of the Kyrgyz National University no longer pass ethnographic practice. Specialists noted that the state does not finance archaeological research, and demanded the creation of an archaeological map of Kyrgyzstan. The study of only Batken region alone can take five years.
The Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Sultanbek Zhumagulov also said that domestic archeology should be supported, but one should not rely only on foreign donors.
The participants of the hearings also propose to legislatively spell out a ban on the activities of illegal archaeologists.
