No threat of constitutional crisis in Kyrgyzstan

Head of the Eurasian Analytical Club Nikita Mendkovich shared his opinion with 24.kg news agency on the preliminary results of the presidential elections, according to which Sooronbai Jeenbekov leads with 54.77 percent.

According to him, the recognition of the results of the vote by the opposition and the absence of a wave of protests, which many talked about, mean that, despite some shortcomings in the electoral process, there is no threat of a constitutional crisis.

«Regarding the outcome, they were not completely predictable. We know from the published ratings that throughout the campaign there was a tense struggle between Sooronbai Jeenbekov and Omurbek Babanov. And the rating of the first started from quite low positions. However, he was able to increase the political weight in August and September, and, as we see, even achieved victory in the first round,» Nikita Mendkovich said.

In my opinion, Jeenbekov’s staff allowed a lot of mistakes, but despite this, it achieved an impressive result, with which he can be congratulated. Especially considering that for a long time this person was not a public politician.

The analyst believes that after the beginning of the president’s duties Sooronbai Jeenbekov will try to contact Nursultan Nazarbayev and start a dialogue.

«After personal statements by Almazbek Atambayev, a personal moment may interfere with the negotiations, but the appearance of a new person in the White House will help to establish contacts, in which both parties will retain their face and may not return to earlier rhetoric,» the expert said.
