Observers of CIS mission positively assess elections of President in Kyrgyzstan

Observers of the CIS mission positively assessed the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan. Sergey Lebedev, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, told journalists today.

According to him, before the arrival in Kyrgyzstan, the CIS Executive Committee observed the pre-election struggle and preparation, analyzed the legislation. «When we arrived, we were theoretically ready. We assess the changes positively. They bring the KR closer to the generally accepted democratic principles of holding elections. At the same time, national commitments and traditions remain. Their observance in no case leads to contradictions,» Sergey Lebedev said.

He added that the observers exchanged views for a long time.

We positively assess the changes in the legislation. So far, no technical means for holding elections have been introduced in any of the CIS republics so massively. This is an interesting advance.

«The elections are reliable. Stuffing of ballots is impossible. We had some concerns. Ignorance, failures could lead to queues. If the equipment failed, a mess in the calculation would begin. To our surprise, it worked. There were failures, but the operator immediately fixed the problem. Similar signals came from other sites, but there were no mass failures,» Sergey Lebedev said.

Based on the results of processing 97 percent of the ballots, Sooronbai Jeenbekov leads the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan. For him voted 54.22 percent of voters who came to the polls.
