Construction of alternative North – South road

The Ministry of Transport and Roads told 24.kg news agency how the construction of the North — South highway is going on.

Asphalt-concrete cover was completely laid at the section of the road in Kyzyl-Dzhyldyz and Aral villages with a length of 12 km in 2016. Earthworks, drainage, bridge work, and transfer of communications continue at Kazarman — Jalal-Abad section of 142 km long, including the tunnel at Kok-Art Pass. Since the beginning of the project, the total length of the bottom course comprised 76 km, or 56 percent.

The working project envisages the construction of 6 bridges with a total length of 281 meters. Most of them are in the final stage.

The total amount of works performed for the first phase is more than $ 205 million (51.2 percent of contract value). The loan amount is $ 399.9 million. Completion of work is planned for November 2019.

The second phase (the section from Aral to Kazarman) provides for the construction of two overpass bridges with a total length of 1.5 km. Work was done to form 33.5 km of roadbed for road surfacing, temporary bridges and technological roads were built.

According to the working draft, it is planned to build seven bridges with a total length of 416 m. The construction work was completed for $ 114.5 million (38.3 percent of the contract amount). The loan amount is $ 298.7 million. The work will be completed in October 2021.
