Not a single maternity hospital built in Kyrgyzstan for 25 years

Over the past 25 years, a modern maternity hospital that meets all standards has not been built in Kyrgyzstan. This is stated in the special report of the Ombudsman «Observance of reproductive rights of women in the KyrgyzRepublic».
It is noted that the buildings and equipment of the last century are still functioning, which were designed for a small number of births.
At the time of the inspection, there was no hot and cold water in the maternity ward of the Kemin territorial hospital of Chui region, the women in the hospital went to the toilet with buckets. There was no hot water in the maternity unit of Sokuluk territorial hospital.
There were no changing tables for newborns in any ward. The maternity unit of Kurshab territorial hospital of Uzgen district had no clean water in the wards. Batken region has acute problem with hot water and a non-working sewage system.
The inspection was conducted from May to June 2016. A special report with recommendations to the Ministry of Health and the Government of the KyrgyzRepublic was submitted to the Parliament.
