Kyrgyzstan plans to raise tariffs for drinking water, UNDP reported.

Yesterady the Department of Development of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation at the State Agency for Architecture, Construction and Housing and Communal Services jointly with the Kyrgyz Alliance for Water and Sanitation (UNDP program «Environmental Protection for Sustainable Development») held a public discussion.

The director of the department Askarbek Toktoshev said that the tariffs for drinking water are lower than its cost all over Kyrgyzstan. In Bishkek, with a cost of 5.78 som per cubic meter, the tariff is set at 5.38 soms. According to the analysis, the tariffs for drinking water are underestimated throughout the country.

Tariffs established in Chui and Jalal-Abad oblasts are understated by 50 percent of the cost.
