Boxing Federation of Kyrgyzstan becomes member of World Boxing

The Boxing Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic has become a member of World Boxing. The website of the international organization says.

The specialized federations of Andorra, Belgium, Iraq, Lithuania, Madagascar, Thailand and Kyrgyzstan have become new members of World Boxing. Now the organization has 51 members.

«To have surpassed the milestone of 50 members is hugely significant for World Boxing and conclusive proof of both the desire for change that exists in international boxing and the widespread acknowledgement by so many National Federations that boxing has to continue to be part of the Olympic Games,» the President of World Boxing, Boris van der Vorst, said.

World Boxing is an international non-profit sports organization that regulates amateur boxing.

It was created in response to the breakdown in relations between the International Olympic Committee and the Russian-led International Boxing Association due to problems in the management and integrity of the latter.

World Boxing is in favor of keeping boxing as an Olympic sport after the 2024 Summer Olympics, when the International Olympic Committee’s special qualification agreements expired. The organization claims that it is the only international boxing federation that can keep boxing in the Summer Olympics.
