Kyrgyz director Zhandos Dzholdoshov wins at International Film Festival

The film Connection (Bailanysh) by Kyrgyz film director Zhandos Dzholdoshov took first place in the Best Social Drama nomination at the III Burabay Short Film Festival. The press release says.

«The film Connection (Bailanysh) tells the story of the funeral of an old man Meken in a remote mountain village. The brother and nephew invite the grandson of the deceased Kelechek to the funeral, since his son is in America. However, their decision leads to unexpected consequences,» the statement says.

The award ceremony took place on September 18 as part of the IV Voices of Friends: Poetry and Visual Arts Festival, which was attended by more than 60 participants from 15 countries.

The film Connection (Bailanysh) will be presented at the ECG Film Festival, which will be held in the UK in May 2025.

III Burabay Short Film Festival is an international short film festival, organized for the first time by the Eurasian Creative Guild (London) in 2021. It is held annually in the resort area of ​ Burabay National Park near Borovoe Lake (Kazakhstan).

Zhandos Dzholdoshov was born on November 3, 1991 in Tyup village, Issyk-Kul region. He graduated from the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. Since 2014, he has been working at Aitysh Film studio, where he shoots feature films and documentaries, and also heads the camera department.
