The Paris Olympics budget is estimated at €11 billion. This amount is almost twice as much as the initially estimated budget. Ouest-France newspaper reports.
According to it, during the presentation of Paris’ candidacy as a venue for the competitions, «the budget for hosting the Games was about €6.2 billion, but in the end it almost doubled.»
As the newspaper points out, in particular, government spending has increased — it amounted to €4.6 billion instead of the planned €2.3 billion. At the same time, the costs of the opening ceremony reached about €122 million.
As a rule, the costs of such large-scale and significant events are covered. For example, the International Olympic Committee alone allocated $880 million to Beijing to host the last Olympics. The IOC sold exclusive rights to broadcast the 2022 Olympics in the United States to NBC for $2.5 billion.
The Olympic Games in Paris will end on August 11.
