Driver was detained in connection with the accident that occurred near Kara-Balta city. The Central Internal Affairs Department of Chui region informed 24.kg news agency.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 312 «Violation of traffic safety rules and operation of motor vehicles» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The department noted: on June 20, at approximately 7 p.m., the police received information that a Volkswagen Jetta car had drowned in a pond in Altyn village, and the passengers had died.
It turned out that 40-year-old resident of Kara-Balta came with his wife and four children to relax at pond No. 3. The man’s wife’s sister and her four children were together with them. There were three adults and eight children in total.
When returning home, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell into the water. The man was drunk.
As a result, six passengers died — children from four to nine years old. The driver, his wife, their three-month-old daughter, the man’s wife’s sister and her seven-year-old daughter survived. They were taken to the hospital. A forensic examination has been ordered. The driver was detained as part of the investigation.
The Central Internal Affairs Department of Chui region added: the man brought children to the pond despite the sign «Swimming is prohibited», got behind the wheel drunk, which led to the death of the children.
The man was placed in a temporary detention facility. The investigation is ongoing.
