15 delegates of Kurultai from Kemin district oppose changing state flag

At the second People’s Kurultai, Ernis Sadybakasov, a delegate from Kemin district, spoke about changing the flag of Kyrgyzstan.

According to him, 15 delegates from the district are against changing the country’s flag.

Ernis Sadybakasov asked the head of the national council of the kurultai, Myktybek Abdyldaev, to include the expressed opinion in the final resolution.

On the first day of the forum, several delegates also spoke out against changing the flag and criticized Speaker of the Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev.

Delegate Zhumabek Abdipatta uulu asked President Sadyr Japarov to voice his opinion and position on this issue.

Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passed in the first reading a bill to change the national flag on November 29. At least 66 deputies supported it, 8 were against.

The initiators of the bill are Speaker of the Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev and deputy Ulan Primov. It is proposed to change the shape of the rays from wavy to straight. The authors of the document emphasize that changing the flag will not entail expenses from the republican budget. The initiative of the deputies was also supported by the head of state Sadyr Japarov.

Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev also spoke in favor of the change, saying: «The flag should not look like a sunflower, but give the image of a shining sun.»

Discussions about changing the flag continue to this day. Many people are against it. A flash mob was launched on social media with the hashtag #don’tchangetheflag.
