Vecherniy Bishkek lawsuit against Kaktus: Supreme Court makes decision

The panel of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan made a decision regarding the cassation appeal on the lawsuit of Vecherniy Bishkek CJSC against Kaktus.media (ProMedia Plus Public Foundation). Kaktus reported.

It is noted that the court partially changed the decision of two instances — to recover 100,000 soms from a journalist Dilya Yusupova instead of 500,000 soms. The rest of the decision remained unchanged.

Earlier, the Bishkek City Court made a decision on the claim of Vecherniy Bishkek Publishing House CJSC against Kaktus.media. The court decided to recover from the defendants — the Kaktus journalist and the media itself — more than 1 million soms as moral damages. The decision was appealed to the Supreme Court.

The reason for the lawsuit was the news item published on the website about the closure of the newspaper Vecherniy Bishkek and the dismissal of its employees. The company believes that the material gives incorrect information about the closure of the media outlet and its bankruptcy. The company demanded a refutation. Initially, the amount of the claim was 50 million soms.
